What Makes a Detent Hinge Different?
Detent hinges create one or more defined angular positions along the rotation path. Depending on the design, the hinge may use a mechanical indexing feature, spring-loaded detent, cam profile or a combination of friction and detent positioning. Some designs also provide holding torque between detent positions, while others move more freely between stops.
For OEM selection, the key parameters are not only hinge size and torque, but also the required stop angles, number of positions, release force and repeatability. These values should be reviewed together with panel weight, hinge-axis geometry, available mounting space and total rotation range so the mechanism matches the intended motion rather than only the external envelope.

Custom Detent Development
When a standard model does not match the required motion, HSP can modify or develop the positioning mechanism around the application. Typical custom inputs include detent angle, number of positions, release torque, friction between detents, rotation limit, mounting geometry, material and expected cycle life.
